Healthcare in Amhara Region
The Amhara region experiences public health problems such as communicable diseases: HIV, Malaria, TB, malnutrition, maternal and child health problems.
These diseases account for the majority of the problems. There is also a significant growth in non- communicable diseases too. Healthcare service coverage in general is very low in the region.
Eighty percent of the people live in rural areas and do not get adequate healthcare services since there are no clinics and hospitals.
The existing hospitals and clinics are in poor conditions, do not have basic diagnostic tools, medical supplies and medicines.
There is no specialized hospital in the region.
General hospital in the area serves 1.5 to 2.0 million people.
Primary Hospital serves 60 thousand to 100 thousand people.
Health Center serves 30 thousand to 40 thousand people.
